Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe agrees one-year contract extension

Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe has signed a one-year contract extension with the black cats. 

Defoe will now remain at the Stadium of Light until the summer of 2019 after his goals helped keep Sunderland in the Premier League. 

Sunderland confirmed on Thursday that the striker has put pen to paper on a new deal. 

The 33-year-old recorded a remarkable 18 goals in all competitions last season, which was made even more impressive given the poor performances of the team throughout the campaign.
