Michael Owen hits out at Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno after Europa League defeat
Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen criticised Alberto Moreno’s performance after Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat by Sevilla in the Europa League final.

Liverpool looked to be edging towards a first trophy under Jurgen Klopp after Daniel Sturridge broke the deadlock with a brilliant opener in the first half.

However, Moreno’s horror showing in the second half allowed Sevilla back into the Europa League final and the defender’s former club were level through Kévin Gameiro inside 20 seconds of the second half.

Sevilla midfielder Coke netted twice in six second-half minutes to turn the final on its head and Liverpool couldn’t find a way back into the game despite Klopp bringing on Divock Origi and Christian Benteke.

Speaking to BT Sport following the Europa League final, Owen felt Liverpool had to carry Moreno in the second half after the 23-year-old struggled to shine against his former employers in his second final for Liverpool.
“At this level when you’re playing against top sides in Europe, you can’t carry any player."Owen said

"You can’t carry anyone making one or two littles mistakes, let alone three or four in one half,”

“Moreno cost Liverpool tonight. No dressing it up, he cost them.”
The defender was part of the Sevilla side that won the Europa League in 2014.
