Boxing Legend Muhammad Ali has been placed on life support and his family have been warned that it 'won't be long until he passes away', a report has claimed.

The 74-year-old was taken to an undisclosed hospital in Arizona on Thursday after he was discovered at his home 'barely breathing.

The former heavyweight champion's family rushed to be at his bedside after doctors reportedly warned that his condition was 'rapidly deteriorating'.

A source close to the family told the Los Angeles Times that Ali's condition is 'very, very grave' and 'it could be hours' until he dies.

Ali was taken to hospital on Thursday with an 'unshakeable cough', a separate source said, with his reported respiratory problems likely to be complicated by his Parkinson's disease.

'Doctors are telling the family that it likely won’t be long until he passes away,' one insider said.

Another source said Ali's vitals 'are terrible', adding: 'Ali is in dire straits and is rapidly deteriorating. His breathing has become very shallow, requiring tubes.'
