Granit Xhaka reveals his first conversation with Arsene Wenger

New Arsenal signing Granit Xhaka has lifted the lid on how Arsene Wenger convinced him to join the gunners this summer. 

Granit Xhaka joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach last month to become the Gunners’ first signing of the summer transfer window. 

The 23-year-old will now turn his attentions to Euro 2016 with Switzerland before joining up with his new Arsenal team-mates after the tournament in France. 

And Xhaka has revealed how a short phone conversation with Wenger helped to convince him that a move to Emirates Stadium was the right decision for him. 

Xhaka is quoted as saying by Metro: 

“It was madness, he’s a legend to me. Suddenly he is on the mobile and wants me. I will never forget his first sentence. 

“He said: ‘If you want to enjoy football, you have to join us. Here is the paradise.’ 

“He has an incredibly calm but convincing manner. It makes me proud to work under such a coach.”
