Manchester United urged to force Jose Mourinho into public apology to Eva Carneiro

Manchester United are being urged to force new manager Jose Mourinho to apologise to former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro. 

The high profile employment dispute was dramatically settled out of court on Tuesday afternoon just moments before Dr Carneiro was due to testify against the West London club. 

Chelsea issued a full apology and although Mourinho released a statement thanking Dr Carneiro, for her “excellent and dedicated support”, there was no direct apology from Mourinho. 

“Given his place in the public eye and the message it sends, Jose Mourinho should personally apologise to show recognition and understanding of the distress caused to Dr Carneiro,” Lord Holmes, a winner of six Paralympic gold medals in swimming, said as reported by the Telegraph. 

“Manchester United should ensure he does this as it will send an important message to millions of Manchester United and football fans around the world. 

“Football has many thousands of female fans and players and must rediscover its moral compass and show it is a sport for everyone.”
