Former Manchester United winger Nani is “not surprised” to see former teammate Wayne Rooney transitioning into a midfield position.
Louis van Gaal opted to use Rooney in central midfield, with the Captain largely succeeding. His all-action style and surprising range of passing seemed well-suited to the deeper position, notably in United’s run to FA Cup glory.
Nani believes Rooney can play well in a variety of roles, and still has a game-changing ability, which could prove vital for England at Euro 2016.
Nani said, as reported by the Independent: “I played with him for many years so I know what Wayne can do on the pitch.
“I saw him play on the left wing, the right wing, striker. I saw him a little bit more down in midfield. “I am not surprised to see him more in midfield. He has a lot of qualities.
“It is different to [play in] midfield than to play striker but of course he is a great player and any time he can do something great for England.”
