Agbonlahor told he has played his last game for Aston Villa

Gabby Agbonlahor has been told he has played his last game for relegated Aston Villa. 

The striker held talks with new boss Roberto Di Matteo before the start of the Championship season and is not part of future plans. 

Agbonlahor was omitted from Villa's first team squad for their opening day defeat at Sheffield Wednesday. 

He wished Villa's players good luck for the rest of the season on social media and added: “Thank u for all your support but sometimes good things come to an end.” 

Agbonlahor is Villa's leading Premier League goal-scorer with 73 goals in 322 games but only netted once last season as the club embarrassingly finished bottom with just 17 points. 

Aston Villa are now understood to be willing to let Agbonlahor leave on a free transfer despite his lucrative contract until 2018.
