Gareth Southgate accepts temporary England job
Gareth Southgate has been asked to step in for England's next four games.

England under-21 coach Gareth Southgate, who did not want the temporary job in the summer, has accepted the post.

Southgate will therefore take charge of games against Malta, Slovenia, Scotland and Spain.

It follows Sam Allardyce's departure as England manager.

Allardyce is understood to have offered his resignation as the FA deemed his job untenable and made it clear they were ready to sack him following a newspaper sting.

The FA decided to act after Allardyce agreed a £400,000 bogus contract to do after dinner speaking but his remarks made to two undercover reporters posing as businessmen are far worse.

He mocked former England boss Roy Hodgson's speech impediment and questioned Gary Neville's role.
