Former Bolton striker Ivan Klasnic is critically ill after his transplanted kidney failed, forcing him to require full-time treatment.
Ivan Klasnic first suffered kidney failure in 2006 while playing for German side Werder Bremen but was saved thanks to an organ donation from his father.
However, the man who scored 24 goals for Wanderers over two stints in the north west is now fighting for his life once again.
The Croatian requires a new donor to come forward after the kidney offered by his mother, Sima, was rejected by his body.
He is waiting to discover if there is a living donor who could be a match for what would be his third transplant.
Klasnic currently has to go to a medical facility in Hamburg three times a week for dialysis.
According to Local reports,Klasnic will have to rely on deceased organ donors and wait to get to the top of the list.
The average waiting time in Germany is seven years.
