Manchester United Roy Keane is refusing to get carried with Theo Walcott’s current form after the Arsenal striker scored twice in Wednesday night’s 2-0 win against Basel.
Theo Walcott also scored Arsenal’s second goal in an emphatic 3-0 victory over bitter rivals Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
The England International continued his goal-scoring run in the Champions League as the 27-year-old broke the deadlock in the seventh minute with a powerful header against Basel.
Walcott netted his second goal in the 26th minute with a clinical finish to seal three points for Arsene Wenger’s side in their second group-stage fixture.
The striker has scored five times in eight games in all competitions for the north London side in the 2016/17 season so far after a sustained run in Wenger’s starting line-up.
But former Manchester United captain Keane warned Walcott that he needs to maintain his consistency over the course of the campaign to finally prove his critics wrong.
“It has taken him a while to get settled – 10 years at the club,” Keane told ITV on Wednesday night.“Listen, he has had a good week but Theo Walcott needs to relax. He needs to try to play well for the next seven, eight or nine months, when the big games come.”“I wouldn’t be getting carried away with Theo Walcott. He has a lot to do. He scored lovely goals [on Wednesday night].“The simplicity of his movement and his finishing was outstanding. But he has to do it over the course of the next year or two.”
