'Liverpool can't win the Premier League with Lucas Leiva as third choice defender'
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes the Red's dramatic defeat at Bournemouth exposed cracks in their title credentials.

In his punditry role on Monday Night Football, Carragher questioned whether a potential Premier League champion would have Lucas Leiva as third choice central defender.

He also outlined his critique of Loris Karius after the goalkeeper again failed to convince and was at fault for Nathan Ake's winning goal.

Carragher noted the spread of nerves throughout the team as Eddie Howe's side found their way back into the game.

He said:
"Panic seems to set in. Liverpool seem to go through this a lot.

"The goalkeeper there has got to do an awful lot more (on fourth goal) but it comes from players not making the right decision.

"People keep talking about Liverpool's defensive problems. The back four, maybe Lucas as your third choice centre back, it is probably not enough if you want to go and win the title.

"But I don't think Liverpool have got a poor defence or are poor defensively.

"We were critical of Karius after the game. If you've got a poor defence your keeper is getting worked.

"But he's not making many saves, that tells me Liverpool haven't got a poor defence. The goalkeeper is not having to do anything.

"The reason I was critical of him yesterday is that you can't expect your team to press for 90 minutes, there will be games when people make mistakes.

"And there was two games where he got asked questions. One was Swansea, and he struggled, and he was lucky that day.

"He didn't get the luck (against Bournemouth). That's why we were critical, because he got asked questions and he never answered them.

"But its still early days for his Liverpool career, I'm not saying he's finished by any stretch of the imagination but over the next 12-18 months that has got to improve.'
