Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney will be suspended for the Red devil's visit to his old club Everton on Sunday after he was controversially booked in Wednesday night's EFL Cup win over West Ham.
Rooney was shown his fifth yellow card of the season by referee Mike Jones for dissent when he reacted angrily to being penalised for a foul on Edimilson Fernandes in the second half.
It means the former Everton player will miss out on a return to Goodison Park and the chance to equal Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time United record of 249 goals at the ground where he started his career.
Rooney was also furious that Jones took no action against Winston Reid after he was caught in the face by a high boot from the West Ham defender that left him needing treatment for a minor cut on his cheek.
