Spanish giant Real Madrid have until June 15 to activate a £39million release clause in Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea's contract, according to reports in Spain.
De Gea's representatives ensured the clause was inserted in the new contract he signed back in September to leave the door open for a move to Madrid this summer.
However, if Real Madrid fail to stump up the cash by the deadline, United will then be free to slap any price they want on De Gea's head.
David De Gea was so close to sealing a dream switch to Real last summer, but a breakdown in communication between the two clubs in the final hours of the transfer window put his hopes of a move back to his homeland on ice.
Manchester United are still desperate to keep hold of the Spaniard, but much depends on whether manager Louis van Gaal will remain in charge at Old Trafford next season.
The 25-year-old still harbours dreams of playing at the Bernabeu sooner rather than later but is also thought to be open to staying in England for at least another year.
