Arsenal to make £30m bid for star defender this week

Arsenal will make a £30million bid for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi this week. 

The Gunners are thought to be on the lookout for a new defender as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his injury hit squad ahead of the start of the season. 

Arsene Wenger does not have a single fully-fit senior centre-back at his disposal for Sunday's clash against Liverpool after Gabriel suffered an ankle injury in the friendly victory over Manchester City last Sunday. 

The Brazilian will have a definitive scan on Tuesday but he is likely to miss at least a month, news that underlines the club's need for a new centre back with Per Mertesacker also sidelined.
