Stoke striker Bojan Krkic has had his request to switch allegiance from Spain to Serbia blocked by FIFA.
The Serbian Football Federation had submitted an official request to transfer the 26-year-old's international eligibility so that he can play for his father's homeland.
But world football's governing body denied the request because Bojan sole international appearance, a 25-minute cameo in Spain's 4-0 win over Armenia in 2008, was a World Cup qualifier and thus counts as an official international.
Bojan hasn't featured for the country of his birth since, and FIFA's ruling will virtually end his international career.
Serbia had hoped to recruit the Premier League star for their World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Austria next month.
