Jamie Redknapp warns Arsenal about Alexis Sanchez situation

Jamie Redknapp has told Arsenal to tie down Alexis Sanchez to a new Arsenal contract as soon as possible. 

The Chile International missed a penalty but scored twice as the north London side ran out 4-1 winners over Hull City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon to give Arsene Wenger’s men their third successive victory in the top flight. 

Sanchez has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers since his arrival at Arsenal from Barcelona in the summer of 2014.

The Chile international’s current contract with the Gunners is set to expire in the summer of 2018 and he is yet to commit to a new deal with Arsenal. 

And Redknapp has talked up the importance of Arsenal securing the services of Sanchez for the long-term after his two-goal haul at the weekend. 

Writing in his column for The Daily Mail, Redknapp said: 

“He may have missed a penalty, but Alexis Sanchez was integral to Arsenal’s victory against Hull. 

“He chipped in with two goals, taking his tally to three for the season, and it’s imperative that Arsenal can convince him to sign a new deal before his current contract runs out in 2018. 

“It’s not just about how much he brings to the team; tying him down would be a statement of intent and help the club to add more world-class talent. 

“They’ll find it very difficult to do so if they start losing their best players again, as occurred when Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie, Samir Nasri and Alex Song all left in the space of two seasons.”
