Claudio Bravo has revealed it was Barcelona's inability to offer him a first team place that paved the way for his move to Manchester City.

Bravo was Luis Enrique's first-choice goalkeeper in La Liga over the past two campaigns, with German international Marc-Andre ter Stegen playing the role of cup keeper.

However, Barcelona told Bravo that he would be second choice behind Marc-Andre ter Stegen for the current season, something the Chilean could not accept.

The 33-year-old ended his two-year spell at the Nou Camp when he sealed a £15.4m deal to join Pep Guardiola's Manchester revolution in August.

The goalkeeper has made a solid start to life in England, delivering back-to-back clean sheets following a difficult afternoon in the 2-1 derby win over Manchester United.

And speaking to Cadena SER on his decision to make the switch, Bravo insisted it had been the right time to move on.
"It was not me that was [first] at Barca, it was Ter Stegen,' he said, having started the season in the Barcelona side as Ter Stegen returned from injury.

"The club made me an offer to renew but, seeing their plans, I also made them understand my position.

"I was very sincere, I did not want to sit on the bench. It's not my thing. And they understood.

"In Barcelona I always devoted myself to doing my best, I always felt the support."
