Paul Pogba played the Manchester derby as if he were a school kid, according to former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

United’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season was ended at Old Trafford as Manchester City’s dominant first-half display played a pivotal role in the 2-1 victory.

Jose Mourinho started the match with a midfield duo of Marouane Fellaini and Pogba but was forced to add Ander Herrera at half-time due to United being constantly overrun.

And Carragher insists the £89 million summer signing was at fault for his poor positioning. "What Jose Mourinho wasn’t helped by was the performances of his players, he made two changes at half-time, but specifically, the performance of Paul Pogba,"Carragher said

"I think for a central midfield player in a game of that magnitude, it was one of the most ill-disciplined performances you’ll see in the first 40 minutes.

"The only way to describe it was like a kid in a school yard, the best player in the school yard who does what he wants, goes where he wants.

"It’s either he’s got it wrong, or Jose Mourinho has got it wrong. "He [Mourinho] could’ve took Paul Pogba off [at half-time], the way he performance in the first half.

"I can’t think he said to Pogba, go on to flick-ons from Zlatan ten minutes into the game."
