Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino admits in-form winger Son Heung-min wanted to leave in the summer

Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that South Korean winger Son Heung-min wanted to leave White Hart Lane in the summer. 

The 24-year-old has been one of Tottenham's stand-out performers so far this season, forcing himself into his manager's first team after a difficult debut campaign. 

The North London outfit rejected a bid of £24million from Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg and Pochettino has admitted the decision was against the player's wishes.

Speaking after Son's man of the match display in the northerner's 1-0 victory over Sunderland, Pochettino admitted 'last season was tough for him,' 

"He came to see me and said he needed my help, and I said: OK, always my door is open. He is a quiet person, a nice person. 

"After the Olympic Games his idea was to leave to go to Germany. But one thing is what the player wants, and the other thing is the club's decision. 

"In his mind, he would like to move but in the end he accepted the decision to stay and fight for his position. 

"The truth is on the pitch. I say this to all my players. If you deserve to play, you will play. It's not about names it's about performances. I am happy for him. 

"His performance was fantastic. That's why we waited for him."
