Pep Guardiola launched a stinging attack on modern football on Friday night, claiming packed schedules are 'killing' players.

The Manchester City manager has already made a staggering 46 changes to his Premier League starting XIs, in part to stave off fatigue.

Guardiola is set for more changes at Leicester City and has implored FIFA to discuss the possibility of increasing the number of permitted substitutions during matches.

'It's not just English football, it's all around the world. We're going to kill the players,' Guardiola said.

'We are looking for the quantity and forget the quality. So the players don't rest, they have a lot of pressure, more competitions, more games.

'For that reason we have to have huge squads, more money for the clubs to spend. Just three substitutions right now... why can't you make four, five or six?

'That [would] mean all the players are involved more than they were before. The coaches can use different tactics, where you can change four or five players.

'It's then a more open game, not always the same. Less injuries. Everything would be better. I think UEFA and FIFA have another opinion about that.'
